Frequently Asked Questions
GENERAL:

What is the difference between the MP System and the Triumph mount?
The MP System uses the MCR Mounting Plate for attaching all system accessories
while Triumph uses their "U" tube mount --they are not compatible.
 Accessories for the
MP System attach at the Mounting Plate and also at the shock absorber pivot.  Triumph
accessories only attach at the rear of their mount.  We
could have adapted to the Triumph factory mount but
we felt a more robust rear mount combined with the
leverage of a unified front mount provided a stronger
attachment.   We  also make the Seat RackTR --a version that attaches to the Triumph
mount because we're aware that this mount is only available with the Triumph sissybar
or grab rail and riders with either are limited in carrying gear.  The Seat RackTR allows
owners of Triumph mounts  to add carrying capacity to their existing accessories.

Why not chrome instead of stainless steel?
Stainless steel is stronger by dimension and is practically corrosion free.  There are many grades of chromium
plating (double, triple, etc.) and a poor plating will rust and corrode without proper care.  Also, chrome plating is
an environmentally hazardous process (and potentially dangerous to the plating workers) that today has many
restrictions and regulations making it a fairly expensive alternative.  Stainless is indeed more expensive but we
feel the advantages outweigh any small cost differential.

Why are some parts not stainless?
Some don't require it.  If the part is hidden and appearance is not an issue (as in the Mounting Plate), the
expense is not practical.  And sometimes a finish that matches the frame tends to blend in with the overall look of
the motorcycle.  The Luggage Brackets have a black powder-coat finish because they should normally be
hidden by luggage and utility is their primary function.  The expense of a chrome or mirror stainless finish is
unnecessary since they can be quickly removed in a few minutes.

Why are the tube ends open?
Stainless steel gets its anti-corrosion properties from exposure to oxygen (air) and this includes the inside
surface of the tubes.  The removable caps allow oxygen to maintain inside protection.

Do you offer customized accessories?
We could but few would find the price acceptable.  All of our accessories are produced with dies machined to a
hundredth of a millimeter and assembled in precise jigs designed for mass production.  Steel is also purchased
in bulk to reduce the cost of finished accessories.  A custom designed piece would require CAD drawings of the
parts involved and actual samples to assure fit.  As a rule, we do not offer custom accessories but we would
evaluate making our dimensional drawings available to a machine shop capable of producing a custom piece.

Is there a proper sequence for mounting more than one accessory?
Yes, the main accessories are mounted first and the Luggage Brackets are always attached to the
bottom/outside of these.  The washer on the shock-absorber mount can be used inside or outside the
accessories but we measure dimensions with it on the outside.  The shock-absorber is supported by a pivot and
the bolt / washer keeps the assembly from sliding off the pivot.  The torque on the shock-absorber bolt must
always be applied to Triumph specifications: 27Nm or 20 ft/lbs.  If you change this bolt, use a high-strength
replacement cap bolt (8.8 + rating recommended).

MODIFICATIONS:
Any modification will invalidate the warranty but, if necessary, accessories can be customized for individual
needs.  Welding is not recommended on grade 8 stainless unless you are very experienced and use the proper
equipment and correct stainless wire (MIG/TIG). Attaching anything with screws or bolts is possible but avoid
aluminum because of galvanic corrosion (a cathodic metal in direct contact with an anodic metal)  --the
aluminum will corrode, not the stainless steel.
The Mounting Plate and Luggage Brackets are made with regular steel and can be modified (if needed) with
simple welding techniques.  Applying a protective finish (powder-coat or durable paint) is strongly suggested for
any modification.
Modifications made by other riders can provide ideas for possible ways to adapt accessories to your specific
requirements.  Clicking on the buttons in the MODIFICATIONS section of a product's FAQ will open drawings of a
few of these modifications.  Go to the Seat Bar or Luggage Bracket FAQ pages.
